Free Day in Kihei

When we woke up in the morning, we went straight to the breakfast buffet.  Fresh fruit of every tropical variety, pancakes, belgium waffles, french toast, whipped cream and fruit toppings, scrambled eggs, Portuguese sausage, salami, bacon, hashbrowns, an omelet bar, danishes, donuts, muffins, cold sugary cereal, hot oatmeal and grits with all the toppings, fresh guava, orange and papaya juice, whole, skim and soy milk were just a few of the things that we ate every morning at the OnO Grill and Bar.  They serve this fabulous breakfast until 10:30am every morning.  We received vouchers from Spring to eat free every morning.  Fabulous.

The Ka'anapali Westin Maui Resort has a breathtaking courtyard.  It was built with complete relaxation in mind complete with waterfalls, stone walkways, lounge chairs in the lobby, koi fish, flamingos, parrots, and flowers and trees of every tropical possibility.  Breathtaking.  

Right next to the Resort is the Whaler's Village Shopping Center.  We walked over there after breakfast and started spending WAY too much of our money.  There were all kinds of great shops including Quicksilver and Billabong, which are some of our favorites.  Before we had completely gone crazy and spent every dollar we had saved, we decided we should get out of there. 

A kind Hawaiian valet took us over to Avis to pick up our shiny, glittery gray/gold Mustang convertible. We started up the coast with our little free maps in hand and tried to find the best beach to stop at and jump in the ocean.  

After about 35 minutes, we stopped in Kihei (key-hay) and found a secluded beach with sweet little waves and an amazing view.  But where can you go in Maui and not have an amazing view?  Nowhere.  It was beautiful. 

Rhett tackled me as I was gingerly trying to ease my way into the chilly waves and then we hung out in the water, trying to avoid the rocks on the bottom and spot the little fish swimming around our feet.  It was a perfect sunny day at the beach so we hung out for awhile until we had prune-hands and red shoulders.  

Driving through Lahaina on the way back, we spotted Bubba Gump's and stopped for lunch.  

We were able to call the boys and see how things were going with grandma.  Cam was very sad and wanted us to come home "tomorrow."  Missing the boys was an easy thing to do but we tried to get back to enjoying the time alone after we hung up.  

Back at the resort, we cleaned up for the Spring Mobile Welcome Reception.  They had hors' de vours and live music in one of their gorgeous outdoor reception areas.  

We took a lot of pictures as the sun was setting and then got in a big tour bus to Lahaina.  Everyone was split into groups for dinner.  Our group went to Kimo's restaurant, right on the ocean.  

Rhett tried his hand at a 32 oz cut of Prime Rib and I had orange ginger macadamia nut-crusted Mahi-Mahi.

There were 6 couples at dinner and we all shared desserts of Hula Pie, Pineapple cheesecake and Fruit Sorbet.   Afterward, we walked the streets of Lahaina and looked into some of the shops until our bus picked us back up.

We got home around 11:30pm Hawaii time (3:30am Utah time) and were totally beat.
