The girls and I went to the Capitol today for the Declare Yourself Road Trip. An original copy of the Declaration of Independence is touring the nation and we went to see it. It is only at the Capitol today and tomorrow.
We got there about 35 minutes after it opened and the line was already around the corner but we didn't know this right away. We watched a short film first in a separate room. We had actually already seen it online yesterday when we were preparing to come, but it's a good video so it was worth watching it again. You can watch it here.
Here is the view from our position in line, looking at how it wound around the entire perimeter. We wondered if we would have enough time to sit and wait to see this.We are looking behind us at the Declaration, thinking it's not going to happen anytime soon.
So we got out of line and went to the barricade to watch other people look at it.
Some nice people did let us sneak in so we could sign the register, or whatever it's called. We made our marks.
And even pretended to sign it ourselves. Hee hee.
There were all kinds of people there with video cameras and still cameras and of course I tried to give them a reason to film us, but there were no takers.
We were satisfied getting this close and not having to wait however long. Good ol' Cricket Wireless gave us a copy of the copy so we could read what it says and see how it looks. That satisfied us. We had a schedule to keep.
Afterwards, we drove to Kaysville to see Kit Kittridge, An American Girl movie. It was one of the only places playing the movie. We have been studying a lot about WWII, the Great Depression as well as the Constitution and the Revolutionary War. It was a CUTE movie and it only cost us a DOLLAR each. A dollar?? I couldn't believe it! That was the highlight of the day!
I mean, the Declaration of Independence was.
